Floribama

Today was a rest day, although we didn’t really need it, but chose not to travel anyway. The winds slowly built from zero to 20 mph throughout the day, with steady rain beginning late in the afternoon.

We’re in lower Alabama, about 15 miles from the Florida line, in a region many call “Floribama,” where the people and culture of the two states are virtually indistinguishable. I was previously unaware of a 2017 MTV reality show called Floribama Shore, from the same folks who gave us Jersey Shore, another irresistibly trashy production about a group of 20-somethings living, drinking, hooking up and fighting with each other on camera.

We had dinner at LuLu’s, a super fun establishment owned by Lucy Buffett, sister of the late Jimmy Buffett. We enjoyed excellent coastal cuisine, friendly staff and live music, while the rain poured outside. LuLu’s also offers a large gift shop, an arcade, and a three-story ropes course, which was closed for the winter.
