Ingram Bayou, AL to Pensacola, FL—the calm before the storm

Yesterday we woke up to sunny skies and 42F temperatures after a peaceful night in Ingram Bayou. Kathleen hauled up a very muddy anchor and we got underway around 9:30 AM. We saw pelicans, cormorants, gulls, terns and many dolphins, and were able to get a couple of long-distance pics. Also visible are the barrier islands that separate and protect the Intracoastal Waterway from the Gulf of Mexico.

We entered Pensacola Bay in a light swell and steamed past Naval Air Station Pensacola, home to the Blue Angels performance team and the primary flight training base for all Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aviators.

We’re docked at Palafox Pier, in downtown Pensacola. After getting our bearings, we took a walk into town, through the historic Pensacola Village, Seville Quarter, Main Street and several parks, then had dinner at Jaco’s on the pier—the building with the red awning below. And yes, that pelican is pooping.

The weather is forecast to turn ugly later today into tomorrow, as Winter Storm Finn marches across the country. The marina put us in the safest spot they had, although it is adjacent to a construction site. We hope to get some sightseeing in before it starts raining.
